Notts LTA Club Chairs Meeting

The Tuesday of the Rothesay Nottingham Open saw the annual meeting of Nottinghamshire Tennis Club Chairs/Club Volunteers, providing an opportunity for every club chair to spend the day at the tournament, together with a meeting and tea, all provided by Notts LTA.

This year saw a tremendous turn our of Chairs/Club Volunteers and their guests, with 24 clubs attending.

The weather stayed dry, if not sunny, and we had the added excitement of Emma Radacanu playing her first match on the Tuesday. Whilst some people were lucky enough to secure court seats to watch the matches scheduled for centre court, the day was a complete sell out, so unfortunately not everyone that wanted to was able to upgrade their tickets on the day. However, several people had front row seats watching Emma on the practice court and many people enjoyed some very exciting matches on the rest of the courts, so all was not lost!

It was great to see so many young people enjoying the Schools Zone and trying tennis out, in many cases for the very first time. The Coaches and Assistants who run these sessions ensure that every child has a great experience, whatever their level of play, and over 2,000 children over the course of the week came to the tournament to not just play tennis, but also have the opportunity to watch professional players in the flesh!

Having been unable to attend the Notts LTA Awards evening, Ian Pearson-Brown was able to be presented with the Notts LTA 'Competition of the Year 2023' award, presented by Notts LTA Chair, Sue Clague and LTA President, Sandi Procter, for the Pride in Tennis Cup which took place at Nottingham Tennis Centre. If you would like to learn more about this inclusive and inspirational tournament, please read here.

At 5pm, we gathered in the refreshment tent for our club forum/network meeting, with a buffet tea, and 2 guest speakers, Sandi Procter, the LTA President, and Simon Spalter, from the Tennis Volunteer Community group. It was great to hear both of the guests explain more about their roles and the work they do for tennis, and there was ample time to chat with them and ask questions individually afterwards.

Thanks must go to the Notts LTA Chair, Sue Clague, and other Board members who attended and helped to make the event such a great success.
