Boys 10U 12 Counties Championships Report
On Saturday 11th February, the Nottinghamshire 10U Boys team were back at Corby Tennis Centre for the annual 12 Counties Championships.
The team of Ethan, Joseph, Max and Henry were competing in Division 2A against Bucks, Berkshire and Northants.
First up vs Northants was Ethan and Joseph as the number 1 & 2 seeds. Both boys went in strong with a great attitude to maintain their level. Ethan just felt short in straight sets but shortly after Joseph took his opponent out with a straight sets victory. Max ended up winning his match by using his big serve, followed by his calm demeanour on court. Henry was last to play and had a tough encounter with his opponent who was a very steady player with good resilience. Nevertheless, Henry stayed strong and looked to make a change, which resulted in the match being taken to a third set tie break which saw him grind it out to take Notts 3-1 up!
Going into the next set of matches against Bucks, the boys knew they were going to be challenged from the offset. In the end the boys kept their heads and did not lose sight of their goals, which was to make changes when things were not going their way and to continue to be positive in situations when they were down and challenged. We took all 4 rubbers, only dropping 7 games! 4-0 win to Notts.
The final match of the day was against Berkshire and the boys knew that if there were to win, they would be promoted to Division 1!
The team battled hard and did what they set out to achieve with a 3-1 victory and promotion secured!
A fantastic day for the boys who bounced off court at 5pm with more matchplay experience gained, but most importantly as a team. Well done to the girls who came 2nd in their group.
Thank you to the parents that came and supported the team.
Team Captain, Zef.
